Brush up on the basics and dive deeper into the world of property tax appeals from a community association perspective! This session, hosted by Timothy Jacobs with Kovitz, Shifrin, Nesbit, will provide a brief overview of the basics of property tax appeals in Cook County, then will shift focus to walk through the various levels of appeal, timelines, strategies, and the changing (and sometimes challenging) political environment. With the 2024 triennial reassessment upon us for the City of Chicago, this a great opportunity for both seasoned and experienced managers to broaden their knowledge on the property tax appeal process to guide their clients with confidence!
Timothy Jacobs
Principal Attorney
KSN
Timothy Jacobs concentrates his practice in the area of property tax assessment appeals. Since becoming a member of the Illinois bar in 2005, Tim’s efforts have substantially lowered his clients’ respective property tax burdens.
While his current practice focuses primarily on the representation of condominium, homeowner (HOA), and townhome community associations, Timothy has also effectively advocated on behalf of commercial, industrial, and apartment building owners. Amidst an extremely daunting Illinois property tax appeal process, Timothy’s efforts have substantially lowered their respective property tax burdens.
Timothy prides himself on guiding his clients through constant substantive and procedural rule changes and explaining the complexities of the assessment appeal process in simple and understandable language. For nearly a decade, he has spoken to both professional groups and community organizations regarding the benefits of aggressively appealing tax assessments.
